Gallatin City Council to discuss 6-month pause on data centers. Here’s what to know
The Gallatin City Council is scheduled to hold a second reading on an amended ordinance proposing a six-month pause on new data center development within the city. The moratorium would give officials time to evaluate impacts and develop regulations, amid resident complaints about noise and stormwater runoff from Meta's existing data center campus.
The Gallatin City Council will reconsider an amended ordinance placing a six-month moratorium on new data center development within the city. The proposal, initially introduced as a 12-month pause, passed its first reading in September and is intended to give officials time to assess potential impacts and create regulations for future projects.
Gallatin already hosts Meta's more than 900-acre data center campus. Nearby residents have complained about disruptive noise and runoff that has flooded neighboring properties. The city recently annexed more than 100 acres near the campus, although officials have not disclosed the land's intended use, and the council is scheduled to discuss the ordinance on Nov. 3.
