Smithfield Corporate Complex Appeal Pushed to January 2027
Smithfield’s Board of Appeals continued the City Investments LLC and ROK LLC appeal involving the Smithfield Corporate Complex until an unscheduled January 2027 meeting. The project application is also the subject of a pending Superior Court lawsuit against the town and its Planning Director, and no construction is underway.
Smithfield’s Zoning Board of Review, acting as the Board of Appeals, voted to continue City Investments LLC and ROK LLC’s appeal to January 2027. The appeal concerns the town planner’s second certificate of incompleteness for the proposed Smithfield Corporate Complex on George Washington Highway, where early concepts included industrial, warehousing and data-center uses.
The January hearing date has not been scheduled. Once set, the town will re-advertise the hearing and notify abutters, with public comments limited to evidence concerning the certificate of incompleteness rather than general views about the project. Board counsel also disclosed that a Superior Court lawsuit naming the Town of Smithfield and the Planning Director is pending and that the town has 60 days to respond. Officials said nothing is currently being built at the site.
