A new data center proposal, Project MidSpan, has emerged in Bradley County, Tennessee, planning a campus behind Walker Valley High School. The developer has filed a lawsuit challenging the county's recently adopted zoning regulations, specifically a 3,000-foot setback rule for large-scale data centers. This comes shortly after a separate project, Project River, announced a pause in its development.
Bradley County Mayor Gary Davis announced a new data center proposal, "Project MidSpan," for a 306-acre campus behind Walker Valley High School in Bradley County, Tennessee. This development comes as another large project, "Project River," recently paused its plans.
The Project MidSpan developer is challenging the county's recently adopted zoning regulations, which include a 3,000-foot setback requirement from schools, homes, and churches for large-scale data centers. The closest proposed building for Project MidSpan would be 1,700 feet from the school, falling within the restricted zone.
The developer has filed a lawsuit asking the court to invalidate these county regulations. Mayor Davis stated that the county intends to defend its regulations, acknowledging that the legal battle could require substantial taxpayer resources. The specific developer for Project MidSpan was not identified by name in Davis' statement.
