Nauset Construction has announced the completion of the third and final phase of a major renovation project at 300 Bent Street in Cambridge, Massachusetts. This 100,000-square-foot facility serves as a critical telecommunications and data infrastructure hub for various carriers, including Verizon, Lumen Technologies, and Lightpath Technologies, operating across New England. The building is owned by Paul Lohnes and managed by The Lohnes Company. The extensive, multi-phase renovation was designed by Khalsa Design Inc. with engineering support from Allied Engineering and Roome & Guarracino. It involved complex structural upgrades and carefully synchronized construction within the continuously active data center. Phase one included the reconstruction of the loading dock, installation of an underground fuel tank, and roof system replacement. Phase two focused on a complete redesign of the building's exterior façade, reinforcing the concrete structure, and adding modern cladding, windows, and signage. The recently finished phase three centered on a full transformation of the building's lobby, encompassing demolition and excavation of the existing entrance, construction of a new below-grade elevator mechanical room, and the installation of a new elevator system, curtainwall façade, and updated interior finishes. Accessibility improvements were also integrated. According to Ken McClure, owner ’s representative for The Lohnes Company, working in an occupied data center required extraordinary coordination and safety attention, which Nauset delivered. Anthony Papantonis highlighted the precision needed due to operational sensitivity and tight urban site conditions, including its zero-lot-line location next to a police headquarters. This modernization project enhances a vital digital infrastructure site while maintaining uninterrupted service for its tenants, who support regional and national communications networks.
