Colorado Springs City Council Delays Decision on Project Taurus Data Center Appeals

The Colorado Springs City Council has postponed a crucial decision regarding appeals for the Project Taurus data center until April 13, 2027, placing it one week after the city's municipal election. The project, slated for the old Intel microchip facility off Garden of the Gods Road and Centennial Boulevard, had its initial planning approval ratings application and subsequent appeals denied by the Planning Commission in July.

A public hearing saw 120 speakers, each with two minutes to voice concerns. Residents like Sarah Garlic, who spent a full day at the hearing, viewed the delay as a positive step, emphasizing the need for proper assessment and testing to ensure sustainable development. Colleen Andre, another speaker, highlighted the lack of codes for heat, particularly in a period of record-setting summers. Fourteen-year-old Kyle McGuffey expressed his deep concern for the community, wildlife, water, and utility usage, attending every possible event related to the project.

Opponents have noted the timing of the postponement, suggesting it aligns with the council's re-election bids. Despite the community's outcry, the project developers affirmed their adherence to all requirements, stating they operate "above board and listening to what City Official" dictates. However, many residents remained unhappy with perceived inconsistencies.
