Google officials announced plans on Tuesday to develop a new, energy-efficient data center in LaGrange, Troup County, Georgia. The facility will join Google's global network, powering services such as Google Maps, Search, and YouTube, while also serving businesses and residents in Georgia and worldwide. Jen Ryan, Regional Head of Data Center Public Affairs for Google, emphasized the company's commitment to being a "good neighbor" through long-term investments in local energy affordability and environmental stewardship.
Local leaders, including T. Scott Malone, President of the Development Authority of LaGrange, and Patrick Bowie, LaGrange City Manager, welcomed Google's investment. They noted its significance for the city's "AI economy" and its role in filling a "vital void" in the utility system left by a previous major electric customer. Google will cover 100% of the site's power costs and infrastructure needs.
As part of its community commitment, Google is providing $1 million to Groundswell’s SOUL® program for home safety and efficiency upgrades for local seniors and families. The company also highlighted its dedication to sustainable water management, referencing a partnership with the Trust for Public Land to restore the Chattahoochee River habitat and its use of recycled municipal wastewater for cooling in its Douglas County, Georgia data center. Google has invested a total of $1.2 billion in its Georgia data centers over nearly 20 years, contributing significantly to the state's GDP.
