DeKalb Commission votes against amendment that would regulate data centers
The DeKalb County Commission unanimously voted against proposed legislation aimed at regulating data centers, reversing an earlier decision to defer. Commissioners cited public demand for the denial of the code amendment.
The DeKalb County Commission on Tuesday unanimously voted against the latest draft of legislation designed to introduce regulations for data centers within the county. This decision came after the commission had initially voted earlier the same day to defer the decision until August 11.
Commissioners Mereda Davis Johnson and Robert Patrick later moved to reconsider the initial deferral and instead deny the proposed code amendment. While Davis Johnson stated her reason was in response to public demand for the amendment's denial, Patrick offered no explanation for his change of vote. The legislation would have revised the county code to incorporate specific rules for data center development.
