Utah Senate President J. Stuart Adams said he sent a letter to mogul Kevin O'Leary, calling for a 75% size reduction to the data center project in Box Elder County.
President Adams announced Monday that he is demanding a major reduction in the proposed Stratos project, saying it should be brought down from 40,000 acres to about 10,000. He also called for greater cooperation with state and federal agencies regarding the project's environmental impact.
"I am demanding greater transparency, stronger conservation commitments and enhanced protections for Utah’s natural resources as this project moves through the review process. Utah can pursue economic opportunity while protecting our water, air, wildlife and communities. We can and must do both," he said.
The letter was in response to backlash from residents concerned about environmental impacts, most notably the massive center's water usage.
