Warren County residents are preparing for a peaceful march in downtown Vicksburg, Mississippi, on Saturday as part of a nationwide protest against AI data centers. The event, slated to begin at 9 a.m. at The Old Gym on Clay Street before moving toward Washington Street, is being organized in response to a call from the Humans First organization for an "AI Data Center National Day of Protest."
Co-organizers Lily Pierson and Stuart English emphasized the peaceful nature of the demonstration, noting that participants are encouraged to bring signs and join fellow Americans in sending a message against "AI-powered mass surveillance data centers." Pierson also mentioned that organizers are utilizing an American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) toolkit for guidance on protest conduct, particularly since the event is being held without a permit.
English voiced significant concerns regarding the proximity of the proposed AWS data center to Dana Road Elementary, stating, "The health and environmental concerns for these centers should not be taken lightly for the children’s sake." A related petition on change.org concerning the AWS data center has already garnered 273 signatures, reflecting community sentiment.
