Inkster tables data center request, company drops development in response
The Inkster City Council tabled a special land-use request for Klever Technology Center's proposed micro-data center, amid strong resident concerns about noise, water use, lighting and environmental impacts. The company said it will abandon the Inkster site and pursue development in a neighboring municipality.
The Inkster City Council tabled, without taking a vote, a special land-use application for Klever Technology Center to convert a vacant warehouse at 27181 Southern St. into a micro-data center. The project, involving property owned by Sage Fidelis, was expected to bring about $75 million in private investment and 90 to 100 jobs.
Residents turned out in force to oppose the proposal, citing potential noise, water-use, lighting and environmental impacts. Although the Inkster Planning Commission had recommended conditional approval, Klever representative Robert Kato said the company would move the project to an unspecified neighboring municipality after the council declined to advance the request.
