Reporter Andrew Muzi of FOX6 News Milwaukee reported live from a vacant lot at 60th and Capitol in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where an abandoned Walmart is being considered as the site for a new data center. This potential development follows similar discussions about data centers in other Wisconsin locations, including Mount Pleasant and Port Washington. The property, part of the Midtown Center, was acquired in 2022 by AFS Milwaukee LLC. The site encompasses a 160,000-square-foot area that previously housed a Walmart. While the city plan commission recently approved a residential development plan for a section of this large property, the new proposal for the remaining portion includes community service uses, an indoor self-storage facility, and a data processing center. These newly proposed plans are not currently compliant with the existing zoning overlay. The City of Milwaukee has issued a public hearing notice for a meeting scheduled at City Hall on Monday at 1:30 p.m., where residents will have the opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns both virtually and in person, or via email.
