The Ligonier Township Board of Supervisors has unanimously voted to schedule a public hearing on August 25 for a proposed ordinance to amend the township's zoning code. Among several updates, the ordinance introduces a new section specifically addressing data centers.

This new section outlines permitted uses, locations, setbacks, height restrictions, and permit requirements for the construction and operation of data center facilities, exclusively within the Industrial and Highway Commercial zoning districts. The move comes as federal, state, and local governments increasingly focus on regulations for data centers, which are noted for their heavy use of water and electricity and potential environmental and economic impacts. Resident Jack Millburn, who provided input to the Planning Commission, praised the proposed data center ordinance as a "really good" framework for the township. The Ligonier Township Planning Commission recommended these changes after extensive reviews since last fall, and the full 15-page ordinance is available on the township's website for public review.
