Amazon is exploring a second data center campus near Danville in Montgomery County, Missouri. The proposed development would include 15 buildings across nearly 900 acres and would be separate from the company’s data center already under construction near New Florence. The expansion follows Amazon’s previously announced $10 billion investment in the area.

Montgomery County Presiding Commissioner Ryan Poston said he supports the economic opportunities associated with data centers but was surprised by the announcement and wanted to see progress on the existing project first. Grass farmer Harry Cope, who defeated Poston in the Republican primary, said he strongly opposes data centers and called for greater transparency in negotiations between the small community and Amazon. The company said it would work with county officials on future approvals and permits.
