Google provided an update on its Lincoln data center operations and ongoing construction. During a roundtable, city leaders stated they are not looking to add any more data centers to Lincoln in the foreseeable future, citing a need to preserve resources for other community growth.
Channel 8 reported on an update from Google regarding its data center in Lincoln, Nebraska, which began operations last year and continues construction. A citizen journalist provided aerial views of the site. Skyler Sears of Channel 8 attended a 90-minute roundtable discussion where Google representatives and city leaders addressed community questions concerning the North Lincoln data center, covering aspects such as water usage and its integration into the city's future development plans. Google representatives shared that "a couple hundred individuals" are currently working on-site, a number expected to remain even after the construction phase.
City leaders conveyed a cautious approach to data center development, affirming that Lincoln possesses the necessary water and energy resources to support the existing Google project. However, they expressed a desire to conserve these resources for future municipal growth, including new neighborhoods, schools, green spaces, and small businesses. Consequently, city leaders declared that Lincoln is "not looking to add any more data centers" in the foreseeable future. The discussion aimed to enhance public understanding of the current data center's operations, with Google pledging cooperation with the city on water-related infrastructure.
