Palm Springs City Council Extends Data Center Moratorium to 2028
The Palm Springs City Council unanimously extended the city’s data center moratorium through Aug. 25, 2028. The moratorium prohibits accepting, processing, or approving data center applications and permits while the city updates its zoning and municipal codes to address data center uses.
The Palm Springs City Council unanimously extended an interim urgency ordinance that blocks the acceptance, processing, and approval of data center applications and permits. The extension adds 22 months and 15 days to the initial 45-day moratorium, keeping the ban in effect through Aug. 25, 2028.
City officials said Palm Springs’ existing municipal and zoning codes do not define or regulate data centers. The extended pause is intended to give the city time to develop and update regulations governing data center facilities and their uses.
