Baytown City Council to consider data center zoning restrictions
The Baytown City Council is set to consider a Unified Land Development Code amendment that would formally define data centers and restrict their location to Heavy Industrial zoning districts, requiring a special use permit. The Baytown City Council is scheduled to hold a public hearing and review a proposed amendment to its Unified Land Development Code. The amendment seeks to formally define data centers within the city's regulations and restrict their development to Heavy Industrial zoning districts, where they would also require a special use permit for operation.
This legislative action follows a unanimous recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission on September 15. The proposed changes aim to establish clear guidelines for the placement and permitting of data center facilities within Baytown.
In addition to the zoning considerations, the council and the Municipal Development District will also address other vendor agreements during their upcoming session, including a long-term legal services contract and a three-year audit agreement for the Hyatt Regency Baytown-Houston.
