More than 100 residents of Cass County, Michigan, gathered at a town hall organized by the grassroots group Save Cass County to protest three industrial projects impacting their community. The projects drawing significant opposition include a Hyperscale data center in Dowagiac, a Fibrosan fiberglass manufacturing plant, and large-scale solar farms.
Sherie Dooly-Jones, a local resident, voiced concerns about the potential for wells drying up and escalating electricity costs, urging collective action to prevent what she described as the destruction of their community. Organizers collected petition sheets from residents, calling for a moratorium on data center, solar farm, and agricultural rezoning projects, which Save Cass County plans to submit on their behalf.
The group is also seeking assistance from engineers and environmental experts to support small townships in their efforts. While the Fibrosan plant was identified as the most immediate concern, residents are encouraged to submit public comments to the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy by August 27.
