Residents of Sharon, Pennsylvania, attended multiple information sessions hosted by Keel Infrastructure to discuss a proposed data center project in the city. The project, located on a 17-acre abandoned lot on Clark Street, aims to bring 134 jobs with an average salary exceeding $140,000.
Liam Wilson, Chief Operating Officer of Keel Infrastructure, highlighted Sharon's strategic location on the national fiber superhighway as a key attractive factor. He also emphasized the company's commitment to the community and transparency, citing their proactive engagement through town halls.
Despite the potential economic benefits, residents raised concerns regarding the data center's power consumption, water usage, and potential noise pollution. John Ackley, a Sharpsville resident, stressed the importance of a conservative approach to environmental and community impacts. Wilson addressed these concerns, stating that the company plans to conduct noise studies before construction and that their closed cooling system will require significantly less water than many other data centers—less than 1% of typical daily millions of gallons.
Keel Infrastructure is currently in the process of obtaining a permit from the City of Sharon and anticipates beginning hiring and construction before the end of the year.
