The City of Jamestown, New York, is embarking on a comprehensive update of its outdated zoning code, which largely dates back to 1969. Jamestown Director of Development Crystal Surdyk explained that the goal is to clarify inconsistencies and streamline the code, ensuring different sections align appropriately.
As part of this initiative, the city will hold its first community walking tour on September 28, meeting in the Roseland Park parking lot. Participants will explore the Fluvanna Avenue and North Main Street Corridors to identify existing zoning challenges and potential areas for improvement.
Surdyk emphasized that the updated land use plan will consider the implications for various zones and will also take into account emerging industries, including battery storage and data centers. Additional walking tours are planned for the future to engage the community further in this zoning overhaul process.
