City of Salix reports incidents of vandalism to residents’ pro data center signs

The potential development of a data center in Salix, Iowa, has sparked significant division within the Woodbury County community, leading residents to express their opinions through yard signs. According to Mayor Nelson, pro-data center signs began appearing this month, followed by multiple incidents of these signs being stolen or run over on both commercial and residential properties. One recent incident on Main Street, captured on video, showed a gray SUV driving over and then stealing pro-data center signs.
Mayor Nelson reported the incident to the Woodbury County Sheriff's Department. Captain Sands confirmed that deputies spoke with the individual responsible, and the signs were returned to the property owner, who chose not to press charges. Sands emphasized the importance of respecting private property, regardless of political opinions.
Mayor Nelson clarified that a data center is not currently planned for Salix but remains a possibility if MidAmerican Energy decides to purchase 900 acres in the area.
