A petition opposing a proposed 69,220 square foot data center by Georgia-based DC Blox, slated for property adjacent to the Nashville Zoo, has surpassed 336,000 signatures. The proposal has sparked significant backlash from residents, community activists, and officials, with concerns primarily focused on potential light and noise impacts on the zoo's 3,000 animals, including sensitive clouded leopards, as well as the facility's demand on local water, power, and stormwater infrastructure.
Nashville Zoo CEO Rick Schwartz expressed alarm about the project, stating DC Blox has not directly engaged with the zoo regarding its concerns or future expansion plans. Country singer Brad Paisley joined the opposition, calling the proposal an "absolute nightmare scenario" that lacks necessary power and water and would be an "eye sore" detrimental to the city.
