The Hartville Village Council has enacted a 12-month moratorium on new data centers, preventing them from operating or locating within the village. This emergency measure was approved during the council's June 8 meeting, where other legislation was also passed, including a six-month moratorium on new outdoor recreation facilities.
In other council business, members unanimously appointed Greg Warder to fill a vacant seat left by the resignation of Councilman Tom Hough. The council also approved revisions to engineering fees, amended wage and salary schedules for elected officials and village employees, and adjusted annual appropriations for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2026. A resolution establishing the Safe Routes to School Fund and an ordinance setting compensation for the village zoning inspector were also passed.
Mayor Cynthia Billings was absent from the meeting, with Council President James Sullivan presiding. Police Chief Kevin Moore presented a report on e-bike issues on local roads, and Councilman Chris Ramsburg thanked participants in recent community events like Art in the Park and the Heritage Gateway dedication.
