The Carrollton Village Council in Ohio has enacted a moratorium on data centers within village limits, effective April 27, in response to growing concerns over public health, safety, and welfare. The decision, formalized through Ordinance 2026-10, was driven by potential strains on the village's resources.
Village Administrator Chris Kiehl highlighted that data centers demand significant energy, water, and infrastructure capacity. The council's ordinance specifically details worries about increased utility rates, adverse environmental impacts, and a perceived disproportionate economic benefit compared to the demands these facilities would place on the community.
During the same meeting, other village department reports were reviewed, including statistics from the Carrollton Fire Department and Police Department. Additionally, updates were provided on storm-damaged areas, and a future planning meeting was scheduled to address zoning matters and the replat of former school property.
