Boise Mayor Lauren McLean has proposed an emergency moratorium on mega data center development within the city, citing concerns about electricity, water and land consumption, as well as noise, heat and emissions. The proposal is scheduled for a public hearing at a Boise City Council meeting on Nov. 10.

The city currently has no applications for mega data centers. McLean said the moratorium would serve as a precautionary measure while Idaho lacks a statewide ban, joining other Idaho communities that have adopted similar development pauses.
