These guidelines were issued by Governor Abbott in June to regulate the rapidly expanding data center industry within Texas.
A key component of these new standards requires data centers to report their water and electricity consumption. According to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), failure to comply with these reporting requirements could result in data centers being denied access to the state's power grid. ERCOT also highlighted concerns that if all currently proposed data center projects are approved, their collective electricity demand could exceed five times the state's record peak electricity use.
