Trenton Withdraws Petition for Amazon Data Center Annexation
The City of Trenton withdrew its petition to annex land for a proposed Amazon data center, delaying a public hearing. This action comes as voters prepare to decide on a ballot initiative in November to ban large-scale data centers. Opponents remain committed to stopping the project.
The City of Trenton, Ohio, withdrew its petition to annex 601 acres from Madison and St. Clair townships for a proposed Amazon data center, just before a scheduled public hearing. The city has requested to delay the hearing until at least November as voters prepare to decide on a ballot initiative.
This initiative, which has cleared the county to be on the November ballot, seeks to ban large-scale data centers in Trenton. Butler County Commissioner Don Dixon expressed frustration with what he described as a pattern of last-minute actions from Trenton.
Opponents of the data center project remain committed to stopping its development. Madison Township Trustee Brian Willoughby believes the townships would continue to object if Trenton resumes its annexation efforts. While the annexation is currently on hold, the city could refile the petition.
