Data center plan moves forward in Yellow Creek Twp
Zuharis is moving forward with its "Project Astralus" data center and private power grid in Yellow Creek Township, having secured all necessary permits. While the company presented its plans to residents, addressing concerns about utility prices, water pollution, and noise, the community remains largely unconvinced and feels blindsided by the development.
Zuharis is proceeding with its "Project Astralus" data center and private power grid in Yellow Creek Township, Ohio. According to Chief Marketing Officer Arastu Sharma, the company privately acquired the land 15 years ago and has obtained all necessary permits, planning to fund the project using personal funds without relying on city taxes.
Many local residents expressed unawareness and concern about the project, prompting a meeting at the Highlandtown volunteer fire department. Sharma addressed key community worries, including potential impacts on utility prices and water pollution. He assured residents that the data center's private power grid would operate separately from the city's, thus not affecting local utility costs, and that the company's water treatment plant would recycle approximately 70% of cooling water.
Despite the company's explanations, residents like Karen Cline of Wellsville remained skeptical and felt the company was disregarding their input. Cline expressed disappointment in city leadership for the lack of prior communication, feeling that the project would move forward regardless of community objections.
