Bloomington voters will see an advisory question on data centers on November ballot
Bloomington voters will consider a nonbinding November ballot question on whether the city should impose a moratorium on large-scale data centers. The City Council will review the results, while city officials are also proposing regulations that would limit hyperscale data centers to general manufacturing zones and require them to meet acreage and power-use criteria.
Voters in Bloomington will see a nonbinding advisory question on the November ballot asking whether the city should impose a moratorium on the construction of large-scale data centers. A yes vote would indicate support for a moratorium, while a no vote would indicate opposition; the results will be forwarded to the Bloomington City Council for consideration as public input.
Separately, city officials released proposed data center regulations that will be discussed at two upcoming public hearings. Under the proposal, hyperscale facilities covering at least 10 acres and using at least 10 megawatts of power would be permitted only in areas zoned for general manufacturing.
