Bossier City Council votes to introduce ordinance to set aside sales tax revenue for infrastructure
The Bossier City Council voted to introduce an ordinance to set aside sales tax revenue into an infrastructure fund. This initiative is tied to the anticipated increase in sales tax revenue from the Amazon data center project in Bossier City. The project is also expected to enhance water infrastructure for the northern part of Bossier Parish.
The Bossier City Council has voted to introduce an ordinance aimed at creating an infrastructure fund, which will be partly financed by an expected surge in sales tax revenue from a new Amazon data center project. Councilman Chris Smith explained that the data center's construction will lead to increased sales tax collections from local contractors and material purchases. The proposed ordinance would allocate half a percent of sales tax revenue for up to five years, or until the project's completion, with plans to determine specific infrastructure projects once the funds are accumulated.
In addition to sales tax benefits, Smith highlighted the positive impact on water infrastructure. He noted that Amazon's investment in a waterline extending to Benton would significantly boost the capacity to supply water to north Bossier Parish. If approved, the ordinance is slated to take effect in January 2027.
