U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno visited Jefferson County, Ohio, this week to address concerns about energy access and escalating electricity costs in the state. Moreno, a Republican, asserted that claims attributing rising electricity prices to data centers are false.
Moreno stated that data centers are producing their own power and that the actual cause of increased costs lies with political decisions that led to the shutdown of reliable base load energy sources, specifically naming the Cardinal Plant. He emphasized the importance of building and improving the existing power grid, suggesting it would strengthen the region's national influence and keep electricity prices down. Moreno expressed pride in the Cardinal Plant, calling it the cleanest coal facility and highlighting a recent $34 million grant as a critical investment for the facility and regional energy resources.
