According to county commissioners, the project intends to generate its own electricity from existing natural gas wells, meaning it will not connect to the broader power grid. While the county is in the process of reviewing and updating ordinances to regulate future data center developments, officials noted that cryptocurrency mining operations typically fall under municipal-level regulation. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is currently accepting public comments on the proposed "Iron City Wells project" until August 17.
