Martin County puts brakes on new large data centers for one year
Martin County commissioners voted 4-0 to impose a one-year moratorium on new applications for large data centers in the county’s unincorporated areas. Officials will use the pause to study electricity and environmental concerns and develop regulations for future projects.
Martin County commissioners in Florida voted unanimously to temporarily halt new applications for large data centers in unincorporated areas for one year. The moratorium does not apply to areas within city limits.
County officials said the pause will provide time to review concerns about electricity consumption and environmental impacts and develop regulations governing future large data center proposals. The measure followed an earlier meeting where commissioners advanced the proposed moratorium for further consideration.
