Assistant City Manager Brian Day informed the council that the town is hesitant to develop its own specific data center rules before the Illinois General Assembly establishes its framework. Day emphasized the inefficiency of crafting local regulations that might become obsolete if state laws introduce entirely different requirements.
Mayor Chris Koos echoed this sentiment, suggesting that Normal should closely monitor and potentially mirror discussions and regulations being developed in the neighboring City of Bloomington to ensure consistency across the communities.
