Levy County commissioners approved a one-year moratorium that freezes new applications and county processing for large-scale data center projects. The pause is intended to give officials time to research potential environmental and community impacts and determine what regulations may be needed.

During a hearing in Bronson, residents including Sue Middleton and Demei Morehouse raised concerns about water consumption, pollution, noise and possible effects on public health. Commissioners said those concerns prompted the moratorium, which will remain in place while the county continues its review.
