St. Cloud City Council to hold public hearing on data centers
The St. Cloud City Council voted to hold a public hearing on proposed regulations for new data centers at its Nov. 16 meeting. The rules would require noise, vibration and environmental studies, while some planning commissioners advocated for a moratorium instead.
The St. Cloud City Council scheduled a Nov. 16 public hearing on proposed data center regulations after voting to advance the matter. The proposed rules would apply to new projects within city limits and require studies addressing noise, vibrations and environmental impacts.
The regulations are being considered instead of a moratorium used or proposed by neighboring municipalities. The planning commission recommended the changes in a 4-2 vote, while commissioners Sabrin Ali and Charlie Hobbs favored a moratorium to allow more research. City officials said no hyperscale data center proposals were pending in St. Cloud as of Oct. 19.
