Prospective developer named for Oregon data center
Oregon City officials have identified Vantage Data Centers as the prospective developer for a large data center project. However, a local community group, United Neighbors of Oregon, has launched a petition drive to force a public vote on the development, aiming to collect 1,400 signatures.
Officials in Oregon City have announced that Vantage Data Centers, based out of Denver, is the prospective developer for a massive data center project. Oregon City Administrator Broden Walters stated that the company, founded in 2010, is being considered to develop a large field with an initial plan for three buildings, each potentially housing different end-users. Walters anticipates a concrete answer regarding the project by Christmas, following negotiations concerning property transfer, city supplies, and compensation terms.
The proposed development faces significant opposition from a community group called United Neighbors of Oregon. James Davis, representing the group, emphasized that their petition drive aims to ensure citizens have a chance to vote on the project, citing that the community has never had a say in such matters. The group has five days left to gather 1,400 signatures to get the measure on the November election ballot, subject to verification by the Board of Elections.
