A special Maysville committee is reviewing proposed projects for a planned $15 million contribution from Northern Data, the company developing a data center in the city. Committee members are working to make an agreement enforceable, but Chairman Darrell Scoggins said the Maysville City Council will retain final authority over how the funds are allocated.

Northern Data is also collecting spending ideas directly from residents, with the proposals expected to be considered alongside the committee’s recommendations. Committee member Gary Miller criticized giving the city complete control and called for a Development of Regional Impact study, but Scoggins said the committee lacks authority to require one. The committee is continuing to gather public survey responses and plans to meet weekly through Oct. 27.
