Harrison County leaders hear public opposition to data centers ahead of moratorium vote

The event saw a standing-room-only crowd, with residents expressing near-unanimous opposition to data center facilities.
Marshall highlighted that there are no current proposals or commitments for data centers in Harrison County, and the forum was a proactive measure. A hand-raise poll indicated universal opposition among attendees, mirroring a prior survey where 80 percent of 1,500 respondents rejected data centers.
Residents, including Deana Roark, vocalized concerns about communities being pressured for profit and the long-term environmental impacts. Questions were also raised regarding the future of large data center buildings if companies were to vacate the county. Marshall expressed confidence in the county's direction given the strong community participation.
The Harrison County Fiscal Court is slated to vote on the data center moratorium at its meeting on August 11.
