The Iron County Planning Commission unanimously approved a conditional use permit for Pronghorn Development's Antelope Data Campus, a proposed data center project west of Cedar City. This decision was made despite local concerns regarding water and air quality, and during an active 180-day moratorium on new AI data center applicants in the county, which did not affect this project.

The Iron County Planning Commission has unanimously approved a conditional use permit for the Antelope Data Campus, a project proposed by Pronghorn Development LLC. The data center facility is slated for construction on 640 acres located approximately 8 miles west of Cedar City.

This approval comes amidst local opposition, with residents expressing concerns about potential impacts on water and air quality. Additionally, the decision was made while Iron County has an active 180-day moratorium in place, which was imposed by the planning commission to gather more information on large-scale AI data centers. However, Iron County planner Brett Hamilton clarified that the Antelope Data Campus was not affected by this moratorium. The project envisions five data center buildings, to be developed in phases over an estimated eight to ten years.
