The Farm Bureau of Carroll, Harrison, Jefferson, and Tuscarawas counties recently organized a discussion on data center development at Barr Memorial Gymnasium in Scio, Ohio. The event, held on April 14, gathered county trustees, commissioners, and other local officials.
Dale Arnold, director of energy development for the Ohio Farm Bureau, served as the guest speaker. He provided an overview of energy markets, telecommunications and AI infrastructure, power generation, water use, pipeline development, landowner agreements, and electric transmission systems. Arnold explained the operations of the PJM Interconnection power grid and how energy demand, water infrastructure, and natural gas production could influence future industrial and data center growth.
Despite the intention to inform on potential data center development, many attendees arrived expecting details on specific proposed locations and project plans. However, Arnold clarified that such specifics were outside his purview. He emphasized the growing importance of water planning and utility infrastructure for communities anticipating industrial expansion.
Following his presentation, Arnold answered questions, frequently referring attendees to local officials and commissioners for more localized and specific information. The meeting aimed to initiate dialogue about data center development rather than unveil concrete projects.
