Perrysburg Township Delays Zoning Vote Amid Data Center Concerns
Perrysburg Township Trustees approved ballot language for a fire department levy. Plans to place a zoning issue for the unzoned southern quadrant of the township on the ballot were delayed until next year, following concerns from residents and property owners, including data center development.
Perrysburg Township Trustees recently approved the ballot language for a five-year, 3.5 mill property tax levy for the fire department, which will appear on the November ballot. This levy is estimated to generate $2,158,487 annually to fund fire apparatus, equipment, buildings, and sites, with costs commencing in 2026.
However, a separate plan to introduce zoning to the unzoned southern quadrant of the township has been put on hold until next year. The zoning commission discussed whether to proceed with a draft map, revise it to designate areas west of I-75 as I-2 industrial, or conduct further review.
Zoning Administrator Kelly Moore reported that property owners and residents provided comments, with some supporting industrial zoning along the Ohio 25/I-75 corridor and others raising concerns about timing, public input, annexation, and the impact of data center development. A motion to recommend I-2 industrial zoning for the area west of I-75 for the November ballot failed. Subsequently, a motion to disapprove the submitted zoning map and request a revised submission passed, indicating a need for additional review by the Wood County Planning Commission, further landowner input, and consideration of planning consistency.
