The City of Eugene, Oregon, has formally rejected a prospective buyer's request to construct a data center at the former Hynix site in West Eugene. In a decision letter dated September 8th, the city determined that the proposed data center use is prohibited within the E1, or employment campus, zoning designation for the property.
Following this decision, the Eugene City Council is scheduled to convene a work session on December 14th to discuss data centers. This indicates ongoing local government consideration of data center development policies.
Separately, progress continues on the College Hill Water Reservoir in Eugene, with two new earthquake-resistant water storage tanks now installed. These tanks feature design elements such as extra room for water movement, flexible pipe couplings, and remote-operable valves to enhance their resilience. Future steps include connecting the tanks to the city's water system and landscaping the site, with pipeline construction planned for later this year.
