The Mason County Fiscal Court approved an industrial revenue bond, development agreement and road-improvement agreement for Meta’s proposed data center campus outside Maysville. The arrangement exempts Meta from property taxes on the facility, with the company instead making payments in lieu of taxes to support schools and emergency services. Meta also pledged $115 million for water, wastewater and road upgrades, along with $15 million for police, fire and EMS services.

The project is expected to create up to 4,000 construction jobs and more than 300 permanent positions. Meta will pay for the power infrastructure and electricity required by the facility under East Kentucky Power Cooperative’s large-load rate structure, while a closed-loop cooling system is expected to limit water consumption. The approvals are an initial step in the project, and state officials, including Gov. Andy Beshear, have said they will scrutinize data center agreements to ensure companies pay their share of costs and taxes.
