New Hampshire Gov. and Republican gubernatorial candidate Kelly Ayotte said data centers are not a good fit for the state and should not be built there. She said her budget will include a proposed moratorium and that even projects currently under discussion should be stopped.

Ayotte linked her opposition to concerns about New Hampshire’s high electricity rates, potential strain on the power grid, environmental effects, noise and water consumption. She also criticized data center proposals in Nottingham and Bow, which have faced significant resident opposition. The remarks were made during WMUR’s town hall-style “Conversation with the Candidate” program.
