Water authority addresses rumors about Google data center usage
The Western Virginia Water Authority has addressed rumors regarding the water supply for a proposed Google data center in Botetourt County. The authority clarified that the initial service agreement limits Google's daily water usage to two million gallons. They also assured customers that they can meet both Google's and existing customers' water needs.
The Western Virginia Water Authority (WVWA) has publicly responded to what it describes as misinformation circulating about the water supply designated for a proposed Google data center in Botetourt County, Virginia.
In a letter shared with customers on social media, the WVWA stated that its service agreement with Google restricts the data center's water consumption to a maximum of two million gallons per day. The authority emphasized its commitment to ensuring a reliable water supply for its current customer base.
The WVWA confirmed its capacity to fulfill both Google's requirements and the needs of its existing customers, noting that it currently treats 21 million gallons of water daily, with a historical capacity of up to 23 million gallons per day.
While Google could potentially request up to eight million gallons of water daily in the future, the WVWA clarified that any such request would be subject to approval based on the authority's ability to maintain current and future service area demand.
