Guilford County Board of Commissioners to consider moratorium on data centers

The Guilford County Board of Commissioners is set to hold a public hearing on Thursday, October 15, to deliberate an ordinance proposing a 180-day moratorium on development approvals for new data centers. The meeting, which will allow for community feedback, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Old Courthouse Building in Greensboro.
This move by Guilford County follows a similar action taken by Greensboro City Councilors in August, who unanimously approved their own data center moratorium. Greensboro's moratorium specifically pauses the acceptance, processing, and approval of development applications for data centers exceeding 10 megawatts. That city-level moratorium is effective until Sunday, February 14, 2027.
