The Surry County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted on Monday night to impose a 60-day moratorium on data center development. This decision was made as a preemptive measure, allowing the county time to establish permanent zoning regulations specifically for data centers before any development applications are brought forward. During a public hearing on the proposed moratorium, Victoria Tolman addressed the board, and Joe Clark of Franklin spoke in support of the measure.
