The Nelson Fiscal Court in Kentucky unanimously approved a 12-month moratorium on data centers of any size within Nelson County. The decision followed a nearly 45-minute public comment session regarding data centers.
Judge-Executive Tim Hutchins stated the moratorium's purpose is to allow the community and decision-makers to gather more information on the benefits and drawbacks of data centers before determining if they should be permitted in the county. Hutchins also indicated that a similar moratorium would be presented to other cities within Nelson County for their approval. He clarified that no non-disclosure agreements regarding data centers currently exist, and no data center projects have been formally proposed in the county.
