PathOne Data Centers hosts meeting in Ida County regarding potential data center
PathOne Data Centers hosted a public meeting in Ida Grove, Iowa, to discuss proposed data center developments in Ida County, specifically in Galva and Arthur. Residents attended, some expressing opposition, while PathOne officials and the Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative highlighted the sites' suitability due to industrial zoning and available power capacity. Ida County supervisors are scheduled to meet to discuss the proposals further.
PathOne Data Centers recently hosted a community meeting at the Ida Grove Community Rec Center in Ida Grove, Iowa, to discuss its proposed data center developments in Ida County. The meeting drew a large attendance of residents, many curious about the plans, while others voiced opposition during a public question-and-answer session.
PathOne officials explained that Galva and Arthur were identified as potential sites due to existing industrial zoning and "stranded power" availability. Lyle Korver, CEO of Northwest Iowa Power Cooperative, further clarified that these towns offer available substation capacity, which their members are currently paying for, making the return of a large power load from a data center ideal. Both Galva's former ethanol plant and inactive Bitcoin operations in both towns contributed to this power availability.
Following the public engagement, the Ida County supervisors are slated to hold their own meeting to deliberate on the proposed data center projects.
