Iron County pauses new AI data center proposals to review regulations
The Iron County Planning Commission has enacted a 180-day moratorium on new artificial intelligence data center applications. This pause allows the commission to review current zoning laws and regulations. An existing proposal for the Pronghorn data center will not be affected by the moratorium as its application is already complete and under review.
The Iron County Planning Commission has implemented a 180-day moratorium on new applications for artificial intelligence data centers within the county. The decision, made to facilitate a review of existing zoning laws and regulations, impacts any new proposals seeking to build data centers.
However, the temporary halt will not affect the proposed Pronghorn data center. This project, slated for 640 acres approximately 15 miles northwest of Cedar City, has already submitted a complete application, which is currently undergoing review.
